Taking Care of the Environment

Birmingham is one of the greenest cities in the UK but our Region also has one of the highest levels of air pollution, with the potential for a vehicle pollution charge to be introduced, as well as the problems created by some areas also having high incidences of flooding.

A strategic plan for investment to maintain and improve the natural environment is clearly very important, and also potentially good for business.

At present the new West Midlands Combined Authority does not include the management of the environment in its governance structures and MEBC has joined other groups and business organisations in a campaign which proposes the development of a strategic plan for managing the region’s environmental assets.

This includes the preparation of a 25-year environment plan to align with that proposed by national government with the overall aim of determining how any legislation and investment plans could impact on business growth and open up new business opportunity.
