The GBSLEP Growth Hub and Birmingham City Council have launched Step Forward, a new initiative to promote investment in upskilling the workforce. Employers are asked to support the programme by signing up to a Skills Pledge:
The STEP FORWARD Skills Pledge is a voluntary, public commitment by the leadership of our organisation to invest in upskilling within our workforce and take positive action to promote the importance of upskilling through our networks.
By signing this Pledge, we are committing to maximising access for our workforce to improve skills at 811 levels in our organisation from enhancing basic skills to gaining higher level qualifications.
- Encourage and support all employees to achieve basic skills qualifications, particularly in literacy and numeracy, through undertaking relevant qualifications to at least Level 2.
- Invest in apprenticeships including higher level apprenticeships (where appropriate) for new and existing roles within the workforce.
- Encourage and support employees to continue their professional development through providing direction and encouragement to undertake relevant higher level qualifications at Level 3/4+.
- Promote Step Forward and the message to upskill the workforce through our social media channels, to our supply chain and to our customers.
